April 2020 timetable workshop

Chairman John Cresswell made submissions to a TfW workshop on forthcoming timetable changes. This was to have been around the table, but the Covid 19 lockdown prevented this. These are his requests and comments to TfW. May 2020 changes The current 08.00 ex Shrewsbury to Crewe (06.18 ex Llnadridod). Will this service still run in view of the extra stops placed on the 06.35 ex Cardiff (o8.35 ex Shrewsbury) – Manchester? If the extra stops are to replace the current stops on the 08.00 ex Shrewsbury, then the arrival time in Crewe of 09.14 is too late. If, as I […]

TfW cut weekday trains to Sunday services

TfW have today announced that they will be running only Sunday services from Monday 23rd March. This is in response to the virus pandemic and reduced footfall. There are a few additional trains running, but the list published does not include anything for the Crewe and Shrewsbury service. The earliest timetabled train out of Shrewsbury will be the 08.24 stopper getting to Crewe at 09.12, so this destroys the early commuter service. The TfW link is here

Update on TfW new timetable December 2019

A new railway timetable started last Sunday. During the week there is little, if any, difference, but on Sunday there are major changes. For decades CASPA have been asking for an improved service on Sunday, with a mininmum of a train every other hour. We now have this. We lose most of the through Manchester – Wales services that now go non-stop Crewe – Shrewsbury (there are a few exceptions). In there place is a regular shuttle between Crewe and Shrewsbury calling all stations, similar to during the week. Hopefully this isn’t the last change to Sunday services, TfW have […]

TfW annouce the December timetable

TfW have today announced the details of the December timetable changes. It needs a bit of study to find all the changes, but we think they only affect Sundays at the moment.  There is no promise of a change in rolling stock. For Crewe Shrewsbury it says: Most Marches services have stops removed between Shrewsbury and Crewe (replaced by a Shrewsbury to Crewe local shuttle service). This gives much faster direct journey times In addition, extra stopping services between Crewe and Shrewsbury, will give people in Shropshire and Cheshire a significant number of new services when travelling on a Sunday. […]

Sunday services

We understand that TfW have asked Network Rail for their agreement to improve Sunday services with additional trains. If NR agree, these could be in place in late 2019. CASPA has campaigned for this for many years. Update: we are delighted to see that TfW are to provide additional Sunday services from the December 2019 timetable.
