TfW are due to introduce a new timetable from mid December 2022.
This has now been released and you can download it here.
We have been trying to get a view on what the changes are.
Firstly they are planning to introduce Class 197 trains and also loco hauled mk4 coach stock on selected services. How much of this actually happens remains to be seen. This is always dependent on shake down of new stock, and training of crew. TfW are not alone in having troubles with this. We understand that shuttle will remain as Class 153s, hopefully in pairs.
These details have been gleaned from various sources. Please do not rely on this for travel. It has been aligned with the current data on the TfW timetable site, but you should go back to that and check for your journey.
We have asked TfW under FOI for their impact assessment of all this, and they are silent. Presumably there a is a logic out there but we cannot tell you..
The good thing is that we are returning to pre covid service levels and no request stops. The introduction of new and replacement stock is also welcome, and should lead to longer trains and less overcrowding. For intermediate stations there is a net reduction in stops for north bound services and an increased dependence on the all stations shuttle services. This will make access to the long distance Manchester services more difficult. Generally it is possible to get to Crewe on an all station service and getting to Crewe gives access to other services.
